The Compassionate Friends is a voluntary, self-help organization for bereaved parents. Support is found through affiliation or contact with one of the local chapters. Selected chapters also provide support for siblings of suicide victims. Compassionate Friends have a number of brochures, newsletter and other publications dealing with grief from loss of a child of any age to any cause.

All across the United States, the AFSP provides a safe place where survivors can share experiences and support each other during their initial healing process. Almost all groups are facilitated by suicide survivors, or professionals. Each year, AFSP holds survivor conferences in participating communities throughout the country on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
